Dispelling the Myths That the Myth Makers Make

I wish Adam Savage was here to help me bust a few myths and blow up a few things at the same time. I was recently at my local pharmacy and read a information page about Cannabis that was provided to the pharmacy from the OMA (the Ontario Medical Association) and it is out right disturbing to say the least. The title of this document is: Clearing the Air about Recreational Marijuana (Cannabis) Use. The reason why this document is disturbing is because it directly contradicts actual scientific and anecdotal evidence that has been know about Cannabis for the last 20 years. Keep in mind there is some truth to the document, but not very much. There is no Cannabis information that I could find on their website. Nothing at all to back up their claims. I emailed the OMA and asked for some scientific data to educate myself. I have not received a reply yet. My personal opinion is that this information was written by a psychiatrist because of the way it was written and the words used to describe the information. Almost every part of this document has false or very misleading information. At the end of the article is a photo of the document I am writing about. So... let's bust some myths that they are trying to spin on us.

**Update Oct 11th 2018, The OMA did email me nice diagrams which are useless. The information I requested is the science that proves their claims IE: scientific research. I am still waiting...**

We will start with the title: Clearing the Air about Recreational Marijuana (Cannabis) Use. First off any respectable doctor or scientist would use the correct scientific word when describing pot. It's called Cannabis not Marijuana. Marijuana is slang for Cannabis. The title should be Clearing the Air about Recreational Cannabis (Marijuana) Use.

Now lets look at every paragraph and the information that this document is trying to tell us.

Myth #1 Marijuana isn't bad for you
FACT: Recreational Marijuana is associated with a number of negative health risks and is an inherently harmful substance. The health risks caused by recreational Marijuana can best be avoided by abstaining from use.

Paragraph #1 This statement is vague to say the least. What are the health risks? If there were health risks why not mention them here? How come no supporting website information to back this up? This first paragraph is a waste of your time, paper and space.

Myth #2 Marijuana isn't addictive
FACT: Canadian youth are among top users of Marijuana in the Western world. Using Marijuana when you are a teenager and your brain is still developing can lead to physical emotional impacts as well as substance dependence.

Paragraph #2 First off I am surprised they didn't say that Cannabis is addictive. This paragraph is suggesting that Cannabis is addictive because our youth are the top users of Cannabis so it must be highly addictive. Well first off there is a very good reason why our Canadian youth are among the top users of Cannabis. It is because Cannabis is the safest non-toxic, non-addictive recreational drug there is. Canada has the highest volume of Cannabis smokers per population than anywhere else in the world. So yes we will have a large portion of our younger population that uses Cannabis. Think about it like this, there is a large portion of our Canadian population that uses Tylenol for headaches. Why? Because Tylenol works good to relive pain. Cannabis is habitual, but so is eating cheeseburgers or picking your nose. A statistical fact is that the majority of regular Cannabis users stay away from alcohol and hard core drugs. Cannabis is so non-addictive that it is used to wean people off of hard core drugs. Young people aren't stupid, lets stop treating them like they are...please!!!

Yes it is true that Cannabis shouldn't be used by adolescents as it can impact their short-term memory later on in their adult years. There is science that backs this up. Studies with mice and the impact that Cannabis has on impaired learning is well know. This paragraph also plays on our emotions, making us worried that our youth will be addicted (dependent) on the so called gate way drug.

Myth #3 It's just fun, and there are no real negative effects of using Marijuana.
FACT: Users of Marijuana can develop Cannabis (Marijuana) use disorder. Symptoms of this disorder include tolerance and withdrawal, which are also seen in other addictive substances such as alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana withdrawal includes: irritability, anger or aggression, anxiety, depressed mood, restlessness, difficulty sleeping, decreased appetite and weight loss.

Paragraph #3 "Cannabis (Marijuana) use disorder" Is this a new disorder in the DSM 5, or is there a DSM 6 already? If these are the only side effect of Cannabis, take a look at the side effects of chemical drugs. The side effects of chemical drugs sometimes include death. The side effects of psychotropic drugs is a whole other subject here. Be mindful of the side effects when taking these drugs. If you smoke Cannabis for few years and stop all of a sudden, of course you are going to get some changes in your mood, however they are mild in comparison to other drugs, pharmaceuticals as well. This paragraph is suggesting that Cannabis is addictive "Symptoms of this disorder include tolerance and withdrawal, which are also seen in other addictive substances such as alcohol and tobacco." Psychiatrists say a drug is addictive when you crave more and more of a drug. Dependency is the need to take a drug on a daily basis. If you ask any psychiatrist about mental health medications like anti-depressants they will always say they are not addictive. Instead they say that you have a dependency on the drug which means the exact same thing.  I like being migraine headache free, so I guess I must be dependent on Cannabis. Now lets think about this in a way everyone can relate to. People that are hard core alcohol, cocaine or opiate users experience severe withdrawals if they don't have their drug of choice on a daily basis. So are they addicted to the drug or dependent on it? Cannabis users never experience severe withdrawls. The Cannabinoids from Cannabis are stored in fat cells in your body. The Cannabinoids slowly leech out of your body from the last time you smoked it. This is why it takes a month for all of the Cannabinoids to be out of your body and why withdrawls from Cannabis are so mild. Some people have more of an addictive personality than others. I think this is the reason why people view Cannabis as an addictive substance. Myself I don't smoke Cannabis every day and sometimes I take a break from using it for weeks at a time. How come I don't experience this so called Cannabis (Marijuana) use disorder? To be fare maybe I do and I don't realize it, however it has never affected me in the way it is described in Myth #3

Myth #4 Marijuana helps anxiety issues.
FACT: Marijuana use can have harmful effects on the mental health of some at risk individuals, and generally harmful effects on most users...

Paragraph #4 Cannabis is not for everyone, however it is scientifically proven to be safe and effective to most individuals who use it as an anti-depressant. If Cannabis has general negative effects on most users why are we legalizing it for? The OMA should have said, if you have mental health issues don't smoke Cannabis. I would like to know what these harmful effects on most users are. Most users of Cannabis experience a pleasant euphoria smoking it. Is this the harmful effects on most users they talking about? I think most users tolerate Cannabis well and some users do not.

Myth #5 It's okay to use Marijuana when you are young, it impacts people of all ages the same way.
FACT: There is strong evidence that shows Marijuana impacts brain development. We know that the brain continues to develop through early adulthood, until the age of 25.

Paragraph #5: It is true that or brain develops up to the age of 25. For some odd reason we seem to think that young people can handle liquor at the age of 19. If 25 is the age we are an adult and our brain stops developing then someone should change the age our youth can legally buy liquor, since it is more harmful than Cannabis. All this hype about Cannabis affecting the developing brain, is just that, hype. It doesn't mean that if you smoke Cannabis before the age of 25 you will have impaired memory or cognitive abilities. It is simply something to consider when teaching our youth about Cannabis use.

Myth #6: Smoking Marijuana isn't as bad as smoking tobacco.
FACT: No matter what, smoking harms your respiratory tract. Tar from a Marijuana cigarette harms the lungs, and smoking it increases your chance of respiratory diseases, including lung cancer.

Paragraph #6: This myth is untrue on multiple levels. First off they are trying to scare you by relating tobacco tar with the tar in Cannabis. It's absolutely true that Cannabis has about 5 times the tar that tobacco has. What is tar? Tar is oil that is heated to remove the water molecules making the oil thicker which is tar. The tar in Cannabis is not the same thing as tar in tobacco. Tobacco tar causes cancer, Cannabis tar cures cancer. The only bad properties of Cannabis is the plant material. The oil /tar in Cannabis is the good stuff. Cannabis only effects the upper respiratory tract and the worst that will ever happen, if ever, you might develop a mild case of bronchitis. Vaping Cannabis is the safest way of consuming it because you are eliminating the plant material. Here's a fun fact: People who are chronic Cannabis smokers that smoke the traditional way (pipe bong or joint), have a one fold less chance of developing lung cancer than people that don't smoke tobacco or Cannabis. It is absolutely true that Cannabis has the ability to cause lung cancer, however so is sitting in front of a camp fire. Any combustible material that results in a carbon molecule has the ability to cause cancer. The fact that Cannabis is an anti-cancer drug trumps any chance of getting lung cancer to start with. And if it is true that Cannabis causes lung cancer why would we prescribe it to sick people and especially people that have cancer...what are we F****** stupid?  Johns Hopkins University says that Cannabis does not increase your risk of developing lung and other cancers. So who is telling the truth? Cannabis has never directly caused the death of anyone. So.. if Cannabis can cause lung cancer, don't you think that at least one person (world wide and though out history) would have died from Cannabis related cancer? A few people have died from synthetic THC that the pharmaceutical companies have produced. I think I will stick to the real thing!!!!

I want to quantify my point here. Your body is one huge cell reproducing machine. We shed cells internally and skin cells externally, trillions of cells every day if I remember correctly. Cannabis kick starts apoptosis. Apoptosis is the programmed death and renewal of cells. Apoptosis works another way, by killing off damaged cells. Cancer essentially hides from apoptosis. Cannabis does not discriminate. Past the expiry date in the garbage it goes. Another reason why Cannabis is an anti-cancer medicine is because Cannabis is a very powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants help stop the formation of free radicals that cause cancer Dr. Robert Melamead Another reason why Cannabis is an anti-cancer medicine is because it is a strong anti-inflammatory drug (CBD). Anti-inflammatory drugs are known to reduce our chances of developing cancer.

If I have a cut on my arm and it is infected and I apply Cannabis oil. The natural effect of the oil will reduce swelling and kill the infection. Essentially skipping two steps to the healing process. Now think of the inside of your lungs as part of the outside of your body. Your lungs are subjected to air pressure, dirt, bacteria etc. your heart is on the inside of your body. Get what I mean so far?  When you smoke Cannabis it does the same thing in your lungs as applying Cannabis oil to the infected cut on your arm.

I would like to know what the OMA thinks about people that consume Cannabis (bud or oil) orally, do they get stomach cancer? Of course no one does or we wouldn't have a medical marijuana program at all. Here's a fun fact. There is a red dye that was taken out of rat poison because it was known to cause cancer. They took it out of the rat poison just in case another animal eats the rat that ingested the red dye. The idea here is that the animal that ate the rat doesn't develop cancer from the red dye. Make sense? If Cannabis caused lung cancer there would be warning labels on everything from Cannabis you buy at a medical producer to the Hemp oil you buy at the health food store, just like the ads on cigarette packs. Use simple logic to guide you beliefs.

Myth #7: Marijuana doesn't cause any long term harm to the body.
FACT: Smoking Marijuana is know to have negative effects on cognition. Effects include difficulties with attention, problem solving and impaired judgment, decision-making and ability to learn.

Paragraph #7: This is utter nonsense. Cannabis does not affect your brain or any of your organs in a negative way. Science has proven this time and time again. Cannabis is actually know to protect the brain, and helps all of your organs to function properly. Cannabis is know to restore cognitive abilities, the exact opposite of what they are saying in Myth #7. Cannabis filters out what isn't important, and helps you focus on what is important. Cannabis affects the way you focus. This so called short-term memory effect isn't permanent as this paragraph suggests. The short-term memory effects of alcohol are permanent. Here is something everyone can relate to. I went drinking one time (many years ago in Ottawa) I woke up in my car in the morning with no pants or underwear on. My wallet and my keys were on the passenger side seat. The only thing I could remember is that I went to the bar across the road from the apartment building I lived in. I could not find my pants anywhere, in or around my car. "Honey where are my pants?" Taking the elevator to my apartment was not an option. Needless to say it was awkward walking up 16 flights of stairs to get to my apartment with no pants. To this day I still cannot remember what happened that night. Not once did I smoke Cannabis where I did not remember what happened the previous evening.

If Cannabis has negative effects on cognition, attention, problem solving, judgment, decision-making and ability to learn, why do the most successful people in history smoke Cannabis? They smoke Cannabis because she is a teacher, and a performance enhancing drug. When I was a teen why did I ace every exam in high school when I was baked out of my mind? Food for thought..

Myth #8: Using Marijuana and then driving isn't as bad as using alcohol and driving.
FACT: While the effects differ from alcohol, it similarly impairs reaction times and the ability to concentrate on the road. When a person consumes Marijuana, his/her heart rate increases, short-term  memory is impaired and attention, motor skills, reaction time, and the organization of complex information are all reduced. All of these impacts are crucial for driving as motor vehicle.

Paragraph #8: I have no idea why this is even an issue. Sadly I did talk to a psychiatrist a little over a year ago about Cannabis and he told me "The only thing that is stopping the psychiatry community from accepting Cannabis as a viable medicine is the fact that we don't know if you can drive a motor vehicle properly while high." If you are impaired on pharmaceutical medication you shouldn't be driving either. This is why we have impaired driving laws. You can relate Cannabis to alcohol, even though the effects are different and not similar as this paragraph suggests. The difference between alcohol and Cannabis is, the Cannabis user is more focused on the task at hand. Cannabis is a stimulant not a depressant like alcohol. A well known effect of Cannabis is it makes you more careful. Cannabis makes you slightly dizzy, but in a good way. Your brain compensates because of this dizzy effect which makes the user more careful. This anti-dizzy effect of Cannabis is what relives nausea. This is why Cannabis is prescribed to people that are going through chemo therapy that experience extreme nausea.

Cannabis users are know to drive way too careful and slow. Driving too careful can be bad thing....or could it? Colorado legalized Cannabis 2012. In 2014 The Washington Post said "Since marijuana legalization, highway fatalities in Colorado are at near-historic lows." I think this is because more people are switching from alcohol to Cannabis. If you drink alcohol and drive it does not mean you will get into a traffic accident and the same goes for Cannabis. Cannabis is a stimulant not a depressant. in general our reaction time slows with depressants not stimulants. I don't think anyone should get really high and drive, however the chances of a really stoned driver getting into a traffic accident are almost nil. A really high user is more careful as I mentioned earlier. Cannabis doesn't make you violent and brave like alcohol. Cannabis makes you cautious and slightly timid. Time to pop another real world situation on you. Do you think the most successful rock musicians in the world can play the way they do if Cannabis impaired their cognitive abilities or coordination? Yes they use other drugs as well and maybe at the same time as Cannabis, however there are many musicians that are just plain old pot heads. Playing guitar takes a huge amount of coordination and driving a car is easy in comparison.

My dad told me when I was eight not to believe everything I see on TV and I guess he meant CBS as well. CBS News Caught Blatantly Distorting Cannabis Study, Says Legal Pot Doubles Fatal Car Crashes. And Forbes says New Study Suggests Marijuana's Impact On Crash Risk Has Been Greatly Exaggerated. I could add links here all night. Do some research for yourself and never trust just one source of information. Keep in mind you will find information sources that say the exact opposite of what I am saying here. It all boils down to whom you rather believe. Always remember there will always be people that have an agenda to keep Cannabis illegal.

If you condense this whole document into the factual information, it would be a few sentences.
Warn teenagers to not smoke Cannabis at too early of an age. If you have a history of mental health issues, don't smoke Cannabis. Don't smoke and drive.

One thing that is a concern that should have been mentioned by the OMA if they are so concerned with teenagers smoking Cannabis is, that some recreation concentrates like shatter, have almost no CBD. Simply speaking CBD stops you from having a bad experience. I tired Green Crack shatter and it wasn't for me. I had a very bad experience. The problem isn't that Cannabis is bad, the problem is that teens may not have the proper knowledge to use Cannabis wisely and when to stop using it if they have bad experiences. The OMA should have mentioned that if you don't smoke Cannabis on a regular basis or you have no experience using it, start slow. Smoke Cannabis that has a low amount of THC ie: 10% THC instead of 25% THC. A good comparison is if you have no experience drinking alcohol.

Renewing Your Cannabis Prescription

If you have read though some of my articles you would know that I've had a Cannabis prescription for a few years now. The last time I had to renew my prescription was not fun. The problem I was having is the government clinic that I originally got my prescription from, would not renew my prescription as they did not have a doctor for several months. I am sure this type of situation does not happen in a large city, however it happened where I live. Although I could not officially find the reason why there are no doctors the government clinic informed me : "the Saskatchewan government is currently making it very hard for doctors to help people renew Cannabis prescriptions. It is not legal to talk to a doctor over Internet to renew a prescription." Even though this situation is not my fault, they refused to submit my medical documentation to the Cannabis producer. I explained to the clinic that my medical information (documentation) belongs to me and that they have no right to refuse to either send the documentation to me or the Cannabis producer. My Cannabis prescription was about to expire and I had to find a way around this problem.

There are clinics in Saskatchewan that will renew your prescription. The one clinic I did call, the fee is $150 just to tell a doctor that nothing has changed and that Cannabis is working well for me. The fact that a doctor charges a fee to renew a Cannabis prescription goes against my belief that it should be free to start with. Sure doctors get paid to fill out forms all the time. If you get injured at work, the doctor has to fill out WCB forms. It is Health Canada that pays the doctor's fee, not you.

The medical marijuana program in Canada has been around for a long time, which begs the question why hasn't this been resolved years ago? Or at least why does this situation even happen? Our Canadian constitution does not exclude Cannabis as a medicine, nor does it say that I have to pay for the right to use it as a medicine. So the question is why should a doctor charge a fee to renew a Cannabis prescription, when they do not charge a patient fee for other prescriptions? The answer is simply money. Health Canada will not pay the doctor's fee, you have to.

Here is what I did, and I hope people pick up on this, regardless if they have a Cannabis
prescription after legalization October 17th 2018. The Cannabis producer I deal with is Tweed in Smith Falls Ontario. I used the Partners Program through Tweed. This allows me to cam with a doctor to renew my prescription. I sent my own copies of my medical documents to Tweed and setup an appointment. We used Medeo (same idea as Skype) so that I did not have to drive hundreds of kms just to see a doctor. The odd thing here is the government clinic that I dealt with originally is less than an hours drive from me, yet I was able to contact a doctor thousands of kms away to get the job done. I wish I could do this for visits with my family doctor. I prefer the Medeo approach because it saves time, money and the doctor took more time talking with me than a face to face visit. I also like the fact that the doctor was on time, no waiting forever because the doctor is backed up with patients.

By the time Cannabis is legal here in Canada, all of this will not matter. I prefer buying my Cannabis from a medical producer because I know what I am smoking. It is interesting that I had to go though all this when i have had my prescription for a few years now. It was worth it in the end.

CBD and Inflammation

Recently I had surgery on my left leg. When the orthopaedic surgeon was done putting my leg back together, I had a titanium plate holding my fibula so it would heal faster. The swelling was very bad from my knee to my foot. The pain was unbearable as you could imagine. Naturally I had to take some kind of painkillers to make my situation more comfortable. Hydro Morphine is what was prescribed even though I get very bad side effects for opiates. At the time I did not care about the side effects that opiates give me as I needed the pain to go away. To give you an idea of how bad my leg was swollen and how much pain I was in, I could not sit on a chair, because of the constant throbbing pain. Even with morphine I had to lay down most of the day with my leg up to reduce the swelling. After a few weeks the doctor told me that I cannot take any more morphine. What was even worse is that I could not take any anti-inflammatory drugs because that slows down bone growth.

Fortunately there are alternatives to taking anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers for someone in my situation. CBD is an anti-inflammatory and pain killer in one. For the first time I tried a high CBD, low THC Cannabis. As soon as I got my order I tried it out in my vaporizer. Within a few minutes the throbbing in my leg stopped. It felt as through the pressure in my leg was gone, like popping a balloon. CBD Cannabis doesn't make you high however, it will make you feel relaxed and maybe a tad sleepy. The CBD Cannabis worked so well in fact I purchased a stronger product that did the job even better.

In general traditional painkillers like opiates, cocaine and asprin makes the nerves numb that are causing the pain. Actually your whole body is numb because the painkiller cannot target the problem area. This systemic effect is what gives you that dopey feeling. CBD is not a painkiller in the traditional sense. CBD helps treat the problem instead of masking the pain.

The key to CBD's painkilling properties is in the human Endocannabinoid system (EC). This system is responsible for all of our body functions, from breathing, heart rate, pain, swelling and your immune systems response. Endocannabinoids are produced by your body. Cannabinoids are the active substances in Cannabis and CBD being one of them. CBD suppresses the enzyme acid amide hydrolase which breaks down Anandamide. This naturally occurring Endocannabinoid  Anandamide activates the CB1 and CB2 receptors and allows your body to deal with pain and injury. Said a different way, CBD tricks your brain into dialing down your response to pain and inflammation. In the case of my swollen leg, CBD reduced the inflammation which in turn stopped the pain.

By consuming CBD you are giving your body the natural ability to take care of injury, pain swelling, cancer and a whole lot more.
There is so much more to Cannabis then THC vs CBD, the type of terpenes are as important.

Recently I have been using Cannabis with a relative 1 to 1 ratio of THC to CBD to deal with fibromyalgia related muscle spasms. I have very debilitating muscle spasms at times. I thank my lucky stars I am not like this 24/7, like some folks are. I used Spectrum Cannabis Green (Tweed) I got some instant relief right away but the pain didn't go away. It took about 5 decent sized joints before I was feeling 85% better. After smoking for 3 days (not 24/7 LOL) the worst muscle spasm I have ever had was almost gone. Remember with recreational Cannabis you still need some CBD to have a good time, the same is true for CBD Cannabis, you still need a small amount of THC for medical use. You can use any variation of CBD vs THC and long as both components are present.

CBD is the new morphine.  ☺

Five Reasons Why Cannabis Will Never Kill You

I thought it would be a good idea to write about what Cannabis can not do to you, instead of the wonderful things it can do for you. It seems to me that not many people actually know the real reasons why you can never OD and die from consuming Cannabis.

Reason #5 Why Cannabis will never kill you is: Cannabis is the most non-toxic plant on earth. Cannabis is the only plant on earth that has all of the nutritional value as a one plant food source. Every part of Cannabis is edible.

Reason #4 Why Cannabis will never kill you is: Cannabis will never contribute to a heart attack, stroke or cancer. It has been well known for many years that Cannabis has many medicinal effects. Cannabis dilates blood vessels and arteries, essentially doing the opposite of what nicotine does. The dilation of blood vessels allows more blood flow, allowing for faster healing process and puts less strain on the heart. Cannabis will never cause cancer and in particular, lung cancer. Cannabis smokers have a one fold less chance of getting cancer even with traditional (pipe or bong) high does chronic use. Cannabis opens up the airways in the lungs. It's no big surprise to know that folks that have Asthma, smoke Cannabis

Reason#3 Why Cannabis will never kill you is: Concentration. I've read many times in articles that people get a stiffer possession charge because they have a concentrate of either Cannabis oil or Hashish. Cannabis is the most non-toxic substance on the planet. Even with high doses, Cannabis can never kill you. A very interesting example of this fact is the 1972 Shafer report was a real world comparison to see how toxic our most common substances really are. Cocaine has a 2:1 ratio, meaning that it takes two doses of Cocaine to get you high and the third one may kill you if done in a short period of time. Heroin has a 3:1 ratio, where the body can handle 3 doses of the drug and the fourth one may kill you. Even Alcohol has a ratio of 20:1...Cannabis has a ratio of 465,000:1. You would have to eat or smoke some insane amount of 263lbs in 15 minutes. Even though the study showed that Cannabis was not harmful, it remains in schedule I in the U.S. and schedule II in Canada to this day.

Reason #2 Why Cannabis will never kill you is: In the case of drugs like cocaine, the brain is flooded with dopamine. When dopamine levels become toxic, the brain will shut down to save its self...this is called coma. Cannabis keeps dopamine levels at a constant and normal level so coma can never occur.

Reason #1 Why Cannabis will never kill you is: It never affects the part of your brain that controls breathing and heart rate. The part of your brain that is responsible for this called the Medulla Oblongata, or called the Medulla for short. The Medulla is the lower half of your brain stem. Mobsters would say" give him two in the back of the head.." The reason for saying this is because if the Medulla is damaged severely like say from a bullet, your guaranteed a kill.  Many drugs (pharmaceuticals as well) affect heart rate and breathing. Morphine depresses breathing and heart rate, while Cocaine will make your heart beat very fast. Cannabis will never affect the Medulla so that breathing and heart rate will not stop.

Nationalizing Medical Marijuana

Nationalizing Medical Marijuana is just another control method the Government controls you by ignoring the scientific data and taking away your Constitutional rights. The Conservative Government is taking away your right to cultivate the most useful plant on the planet. The Conservative party stopped all legal grow-ops in April of 2014, under the guise of eliminating crime associated with illegal grow-ops. CONTROL is the word of the day and always is. Legal and illegal Cannabis growers don't have guns to shoot the police, they have guns to protect themselves from the crime that Cannabis prohibition has created. Said another way...Legal and illegal Cannabis growers have different methods of security to protect themselves from those who may use fire arms to rob them.

Is Nationalizing Medical Marijuana a step in the right direction? Will recreational Cannabis be nationalized as well? If the answer is no then there will always be an illegal Cannabis trade for which there will always be crime. If money is an issue, then Medical Marijuana patients will go to the illegal drug trade as an alternative. This flaw in the system will allow illegal Cannabis producers to cash in by selling Cannabis cheaper than the Canadian Government. If our Canadian Conservative Government is Nationalizing Medical Marijuana because of its perceived potential for harm, then why on earth wouldn’t the government ban the use of tobacco and alcohol when asbestos was banned in 1979? All are known carcinogens so why leave tobacco and alcohol legal substances when both kill so many people every year? The reason for this is because you don’t have a choice to breath in asbestos fibers, where consuming alcohol and tobacco are a choice. If I have the choice of what way I would like to get cancer, why can't I choose the way I want to prevent it? Why on earth don’t I have the legal choice to consume Cannabis as a recreational substance when it prevents cancer?

In actuality our government does the opposite of what is needed. Here is an example: Cannabis is under schedule II in The Canadian Drug Schedule, and LSD is in schedule III. This means that LSD has more medicinal usages than Cannabis. In the US Cannabis is under schedule I, meaning Cannabis is as dangerous cocaine, heroin ETC. Why prescribe Cannabis to a cancer patient if it is so dangerous and causes cancer? What are we stupid? I asked my family doctor this very question. He responded “the reason why Cannabis is prescribed is because of short term grain versus long term exposure to the substance”. I don’t know about you, but if you have any type of cancer you’re in it for the long haul. No my friend the War on Drugs is control of useful substances like Cannabis. Cannabis is just one piece of the big picture, of government deception. In 2018 all of this will change, when Cannabis will be legal across Canada. Way to go Justin Trudeau. ☺

When the Conservative Government Nationalized Medical Marijuana, they are acknowledging that Cannabis has therapeutic value, so why is it still in Schedule II ? And if Cannabis can prevent and cure cancer why can't healthy people use it? Should we only have pity on those who are terminally ill? Can you even imagine the billions of dollars that would be saved every year, if we started using Cannabis oil to treat cancer (any form) instead of VERY expensive chemo and radiation therapy. Well one person did exactly that. His name is Rick Simpson. For those who do not know, Rick Simpson is a pioneer when it comes to curing cancer with Cannabis oil. Rick has his own very successful website called PhoenixTears.ca Rick made his Cannabis oil public to share his knowledge. Rick even called the Canadian Cancer Institute to tell them of his success. Of course they did not take Rick seriously. Rick gave his oil away at little or no cost. For Rick’s efforts, he has to live in another country or face jail time in Canada. Rick has not lived in Canada since 2013. See this is what our government does to people like Rick Simpson and Marc Emery. We are slowly being Americanized. Do you ever wonder why the colours of the Conservative Government are red white and blue?

The Special Senate Committee on Illegal Drugs said in 2002. “In our opinion, Canadian society is ready for a responsible policy on Cannabis...the continued prohibition of Cannabis jeopardizes the health and well-being of Canadians much more than does the substance itself. Cannabis presents almost no toxicity and cannot lead to an overdose.” The Committee also said “ Marijuana is not a gateway drug and should be treated like tobacco or alcohol than like hard drugs.” More info: Canadian Foundation for Drug Policy

Here’s what your Conservative Government says about Cannabis today.
”Marijuana, whether you are talking about the effects, the toxicity in terms of the human body are incredible. To legalize a substance that is incredibly toxic and is going to create a huge impact on our health-care system cost doesn’t really make sense.”  Cathy McLeod – Conservative Party – Thompson-Cariboo-Shuswap, BC

Why on earth would the Conservative government’s stance on Cannabis differ so dramatically since 2002? They are the political party that is Nationalizing Medical Marijuana in the first place. The only answer to this question is the money that is being made by Nationalizing Medical Marijuana and not decisions based on intelligence. If its so dangerous as Cathy McLeod seems to think, why Nationalize Medical Marijuana to start with? Seems to me that Cannabis is illegal in Canada for recreational uses, because of political agendas and not what the majority of Canadian citizens have demanded and science has told us. The majority of the North American people want Cannabis decriminalized. Since 2002, science has only fortified the fact that Cannabis is non-toxic and very helpful for every bodily function. The Conservative Government is loosening up possession charges up to an ounce of dried Cannabis, and at the same time making illegal cultivation penalties stiffer. One month in jail for every plant you grow.

Access to the Medical Marijuana System
In 2013 it was impossible to find a doctor that supports Medical Marijuana. It took me 3 years to convenience my own family doctor at the time, that Cannabis prevented migraine headaches and that Cannabis can be used for a variety of illnesses. My family doctor would not sign my exemption card papers even though Health Canada provides a disclaimer form for the doctor to sign. I think doctors are scared of being sued and losing their license. The main reason for this is the perception that Cannabis can cause lung cancer. It is true that Cannabis has the ability to cause lung cancer however, so is sitting in front of a camp fire. Any combustible substance that results in a carbon molecule has the ability to cause cancer. Cannabis smokers have a one fold less chance of getting lung cancer than people that do not smoke tobacco or Cannabis. Cannabis is doing what it is intended to do as an anti-cancer medicine. Unless recreational Cannabis use is nationalized as well, then this whole system is as useful as the gun registry!!!!!!! Canadians will remember what a huge waste of money that was.

The Canadian Constitution grants me the right as a Canadian Citizen to use whatever medicine best suits my needs. No where in the Canadian Constitution does it exclude Cannabis or say that I have to pay for the right. I don’t have to pay to use morphine if I need it. Why should I have to pay for the privilege to use Cannabis? My Constitutional rights to use Cannabis supersedes the Cannabis laws!!! This is the very reason why you don’t have to obey the Cannabis prohibition laws to start with. The Canadian Government counts on its citizens being ignorant to this fact and throws you in jail. In actuality it is the Canadian Government that is breaking the law by enforcing Cannabis laws and prohibiting people from using a useful substance. Seems to me that Health Canada should make it free for anyone to get an exemption card (prescription) since the system is fundamentally flawed to start with.

Essentially Cannabis laws should not be enforced. The North American people have given their government 35 years to fix a problem that never existed. There never was a big enough problem with Cannabis in the first place to warrant making it illegal. In 1937 the U.S. government outlawed all forms of Cannabis/Hemp and branded it Marijuana. Why not use its scientific name (Cannabis)? My spin on this is: the name Marijuana was intentionally used by the US DEA because (Can)nabis sounded too positive. A little know fact: Marijuana has nothing to do with Cannabis. Marijuana is a tobacco smoked by Mexicans. The U.S. government used scare tactics and it started with how they branded their new war. So the people would demand to be protected against the new killer weed.

While Cannabis remains illegal in Canada for recreation use, countries like Uruguay took the right approach and legalized it. Cannabis in Uruguay is now considered “a farm-to-table state business” This approach is exactly what the North American people have been asking for. Way to go Uruguay!!! ☺

Marijuana should not be compared to another substance and its perceived potential for harm. We should focus on the positive effects, since science tells us that Cannabis does not affect the brain and all organs in a negative way. Most people are brain washed into believing that every drug, whether legal or illegal has side effects, where Cannabis’s high is a side effect. Maranol which is a synthetic THC is very much legal to use and has the exact same “side effects” (high) as Cannabis. People have died using synthetic THC (Maranol) and its legal. No one has died (ever) smoking Cannabis and it's illegal!!!!!  it's almost like they want to kill us on purpose. Have you ever heard this saying: “you can be addicted to drugs, just as long as they are our drugs!”

Cannabis is indeed the most widely used illegal drug. However this is mainly because it is the safest non-addictive illegal drug to use, and it is healthy for you at the same time. Cannabis is safer to use than drinking coffee. What this all of this boils down to is Cannabis works too well as a medicine. The only reason for nationalized Medical Marijuana is so the government can now capitalize on the revenue that will be generated from over-priced government controlled Cannabis. If it is legal for the government to grow it, why the heck cant I grow it myself?

Here is another flaw in the system. Cannabis seeds are and have been legal to purchase in Canada for a long time now. The reason why Cannabis seeds are legal is because they do not contain high levels of THC. THC is the substance that makes Cannabis illegal. Cannabis seeds are legal to purchase, however growing and cultivating the plant is illegal. What does the Canadian Government expect us to do with the seeds....eat them? No your going to grow the plant of course. I cannot stop mother nature from producing THC in a Cannabis plant. You can legally grow Papaver somniferum,  (The opium poppy) in your garden. The flowers are considered ornamental even though you could produce a small amount of opium from it. The Canadian Government is telling us, it is ok to grow a plant that can potentially kill you, just as long as you don’t grow a Cannabis plant that can save your lifeI am sure you see what I'm getting at here...
The Canadian Government is essentially creating criminals by allowing us to purchase Cannabis seeds legally. This is just another example of why the Cannabis laws should not be obeyed.

Please keep in mind that the reason for pushing forth and out right legalizing Cannabis is the struggle for truth, freedom and has little to do with getting high. I believe in people like scientists, molecular biologists that are 100 times smarter than myself. Look at the facts, educate yourself, and let simple logic guide your beliefs.

FAST FORWARD ...........4 years 2017
WOW what a change 4 years has made. I didn't think this day would come. Thank you Justin Trudeau!!!! You got to admit that Mr. Trudeau is the coolest Prime Minister in Canadian history. He's doing what other prime ministers wouldn't touch, and he's doing it for all the right reasons.

Today it's different, you don't have to find a doctor because clinics are opening up all across Canada that provide access to a doctor that supports the Medical Marijuana program. The best part is you don't have to pay for the right to use Cannabis as a medicine. All you need is a referral from your family doctor or drop into one of the clinics. The whole idea of nationalizing Medical Marijuana is safe access for patients. What could be safer than growing your own medicine? Today patients are allowed to do just that. Under the new Medical Marijuana laws, patients are allowed to grow a limited amount of plants. How many can we grow? You will have to wait for a definite answer sometime in the spring 2018.

Recently I had to show my exemption card (from the producer) to a police officer. The discussion about me smoking pot lasted about 30 seconds. "A badge of freedom" are the words that come to mind when I think about this situation. All the years of hunting for a doctor and faxing documentation paid off.

Cannabis and Diabetes

One simple fact about Cannabis that is it balances your body’s own growth and healing rhythms. Cannabis has the ability to dial down the body’s immune system’s inflammatory response to infection and swelling. Since Cannabis is a natural antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory substance, the immune system has less to deal with, making recover time from injury shorter. In essence, skipping a step to the healing process. Cannabidiol (CBD) is the Cannabinoid that is responsible for the anti-inflammatory response and is also anti-psychoactive where Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is psychoactive. These two substances have a slightly opposite effect on each other keeping your brain chemistry in balance. Think about it like this: it’s a fail-safe system, which is the reason why you can never OD smoking or eating Cannabis. You can only get so high from smoking Cannabis, your brain will not allow serotonin and dopamine  levels to become toxic. This natural control mechanism is what I personality believe is the key to how Cannabis can treat any illness.

Most folks that smoke or have eaten Cannabis on a daily basis have noticed a decrease in appetite, as though Cannabis is somehow giving the body all that it needs for nutrition. This natural effect of Cannabis is more prevalent with someone who is overweight. Even if you are over weight and consuming more calories than needed you tend to lose weight. Cannabis works in the opposite fashion by increasing one’s appetite if underweight, hence why we prescribe Cannabis to AIDS and cancer patients. This natural response of Cannabis to restore one’s natural body harmony is key to understand why Cannabis can do so many wonderful things. It’s no surprise to read that Cannabis can be used to treat diabetes, and other illnesses like migraine headaches.

A published article in The American Journal of Medicine, shows this “two faced” relationship Cannabis has on weight and diabetes. In short, the article accurately describes how Cannabis controls insulin levels for diabetes subjects that fasted for 9 hours. The study concluded that: Cannabis users are less likely to become obese. Cannabis smokers tend to have a better metabolic rate for digestion and sugar control IE: Cannabis controls the energy intake and distribution though out your body. Endocannabinoids are the Cannabis like Cannabinoids that your body already produces. The study also suggests that Cannabinoid receptors deep in the brain are responsible for the way Cannabis plays a role in controlling one’s weight and insulin levels. This finding is very important because, this means that Cannabis can be used to treat Hypoglycemia as well.

The key to how Cannabis can control blood sugar levels and weight is the CB1 receptor. In the 1980s researchers identified the CB1 Cannabinoid receptor. Cannabinoid receptors come in two varieties, called CB1 and CB2.  Most of your CB1 receptors are in your brain, and are responsible for the ”high” you get from smoking Cannabis. CB2 receptors, often associated with the immune system, and are found all over the body. Repeated use of Cannabis makes the CB1 receptors less sensitive, meaning the weaken CB1 receptors are dialing down the appetite response. Daniele Piomelli, a professor of pharmacology at the University of California, Irvine, says “This has been shown to happen in people who smoke marijuana. This weakening of CB1 receptor translates into a lower risk for obesity and diabetes because the inactive receptor would be unable to respond to our own cannabis-like molecules, which we know are important in keeping us chubby.” Cannabis might spike our appetite initially, over time it gets dialed down naturally. Wow what a cool side effect for a drug.

There you have it folks...another use for the oldest medicine on earth !!!!!!
Now maybe you will discover like millions of others have already done. Cannabis is really a cure all medicine that happens to be the best preventative medicine as well.

Migraine Headaches

I am one of those fortunate people that suffer from the king of all headaches, a migraine!!! Like my mother, I had migraine pain early in childhood. For me, the headaches started at the age of 12. The migraine headaches were so bad, my skull felt as though someone was hitting me with a hatchet, over and over again, for a period of a few days. The best part is you can never relax. The feeling of getting struck about the head and throwing up, pretty much prevents any chance of trying to relax to relieve the headache. If it wasn't bad enough having a pounding headache, you are at a higher risk for heart attack or stroke. The more headaches you get, the higher the risk. If you are one of the 18% of women or 6% of men who suffer from Migraine headaches, read on...

What causes a migraine headache? A chemical imbalance (even though there is no test for this) in the brain is what causes a migraine. The two chemicals that are responsible are: serotonin and dopamine. The theory is that the amounts of these chemicals change drastically causing the immune system to over react. The sudden change causes the blood vessels in the brain to open suddenly, then constrict suddenly. This in turn excites the nerve impulses in the brain. This is what causes the characteristic throbbing migraine headache pain. No one really knows what triggers these chemicals in the brain to go out of balance. We do know what factors contribute to them. Certain processed foods, chocolate, stress, eye strain and poor diet are some of the common factors that play a role in what causes migraine headaches. In general most migraine headaches have three distinct phases. The aura is the first warning sign that a migraine is headed your way. The aura is a visual disturbance. Common types of aura are: flashing crystal patterns, black spots, streaking or flashing lights. The second phase is nausea and vomiting. The third phase is the classic throbbing headache, which may last for hours or days.

In the 1980s the medication that was used to treat migraine headaches often made you very dopey, like Fiorinal and Topamate. Back then, doctors did not know what causes migraines and how to treat them. The best practice back then was to sleep off a migraine with the narcotics the doctors prescribed. Out of all the medications that I have used to treat migraine headaches, not one worked without producing some horrid side effect. Now a days there are better medications like Imitrex . Imitrex doesn't make the user dopey or unable to function. Imitrex stops the rapid contraction and expansion of the blood vessels in the brain. Imitrex only treats the headache as it occurs and doesn't prevent the headaches from happening, only Cannabis can. Common medications that are used to treat migraine headaches today are: Beta-blocking drugs, anti-depressant and anti-seizure drugs, and they all have a long list of dangerous side effects !!! In society, we have been conditioned to believe every medication has an acceptable side affect.

The reason why Cannabis prevents migraine headaches is simple. Cannabis regulates the regular flow of serotonin and dopamine in the brain, preventing this condition from occurring to start with. Another reason why Cannabis works so well is, Cannabis dilates blood vessels allowing for better blood flow. A good example of this, is the effect Cannabis has on people with MS. migraine headaches like MS, are a vascular (blood flow) problem with one's body.

Up to the 1930s Cannabis was used to treat everything from menstrual cramps to cancer and migraine headaches. For 75 years Cannabis was the primary treatment used to prevent migraines in North America. Not one person reported any side effects, if you call feeling better and sleepy, a side effect. The best thing to do when you have a migraine is to sleep it off if possible. Treating an active migraine is still possible by smoking Cannabis, however most folks prefer to prevent the headaches all together. Migraine headaches can also be prevented by using CBD CBD capsules or flower, whatever works for you. Cannabis stays in your system for 28 days after the last time it was smoked or eaten. You do not have to smoke Cannabis every day to get the medicinal benefits and this is why many consider Cannabis a preventive medicine. This simple fact is why you can prevent migraine headaches with Cannabis.

At the age of 17, five years later after trying several medications to treat my disorder, I visited a naturopathic doctor. My intent was to find a better way to relive the pain without all of the side effects of chemical drugs. To my surprise the doctor told me to throw all my pills in the toilet and smoke Cannabis. At this point I was willing to try anything even if it was illegal. The frequency and intensity of the Migraines were dramatically reduced and eventually I stopped getting them all together. That was 28 years ago and its a shame that Cannabis is still demonized by those who refuse to understand.

Medical Marijuana critics often argue that Cannabis is simply a narcotic drug that people want to see legalized and cannot grasp the concept that Cannabis can treat all sorts of common and non-common aliments. There are many myths surrounding Cannabis I often get a blank look when talking to doctors about Cannabis and how much it has helped me over the years. I think people have a general view that Cannabis is alchemy and that we are in the age of science and chemicals. It was the oil industry that started the chemical drug business and we have both those industries to thank for Cannabis prohibition. Cannabis was removed from the U.S. Pharmacopoeia in the 1930s not because it was harmful. It was removed because it was know to be a therapeutic substance, Even in the 1930s people knew that Cannabis wasn't addictive and not many bad effects were reported about the drug. Useful substances are banned and harmful ones like alcohol and tobacco are legal. Canada was the first country to legalize Cannabis for medical use. Uruguay was the first country to legalize Cannabis for medical and recreational use at the same time. Canada will be the second country in the world to fully legalize Cannabis. It will be nice when Mexico legalizes Cannabis, that way the U.S. will be surrounded by legal pot! In the future I hope my beloved Canada will lead the way for the use of other holistic drugs that are also non-toxic and not deadly.

Consuming Raw Cannabis

I've eaten raw Cannabis flowers and leaves for years and didn’t know they were good for me. The smaller leaves around the flowers are slightly sweet, but they get caught at the back of your tongue LOL!  That is because the leaves have little barbs on them and have a rough texture. The larger leaves not so nice to chew on either. I kept munching on them regardless. Funny thing is, my dog liked eating them as well. Maybe my dog somehow knew consuming raw Cannabis was good for her as I knew it was good for me. For those animal lovers out there, no harm was caused to the dog. I stopped letting her eat the leaves, thinking they might be bad for her, like how onions are bad for dogs.

The health benefits of consuming raw Cannabis and juice are: non-psychoactive, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antioxidant, antiviral, antifungal, and anticancer. It is particularly effective when treating breast cancer. What an amazing plant and it happens to be the most non-toxic one as well !!! Consuming raw Cannabis has great nutritional value and is: well balanced with all essential fatty acids, amino acids and Cannabinoid acids. Since Cannabis juice is very harsh tasting, it is usually combined with vegetable and or fruit juice and can even be mixed into a smoothy.

One of the drawl backs to juicing raw Cannabis is: Few people can afford to keep a garden full of plants to juice every day. It takes a lots of Cannabis leaves to make a small amount of juice. Also, the juice only takes a few days to spoil, as it turns from a emerald green to brown. None the less, this new way of using nature's most useful plant, opens up new avenues of treating common illnesses with herbal remedies...when main stream media catches up.

How Cannabinoids work
Cannabinoids are the active substances that produce Cannabis’s medicinal effects. Cannabis contains 60+ Cannabinoids. THC and CBD are the two most potent
Cannabis is curing my cancer...
Cannabinoids THC is psychoactive and CBD is non-psychoactive. Think of each Cannabinoid as a separate link in a chain. The chain completes a circle. If one of the links are removed from the chain, then the circuit is broken and the medicinal effect is lost. All of the Cannabinoids (links) have to be present in the drug to produce the desired affects. This is the main reason why pharmaceutical companies have a hard time trying to isolate certain properties of the plant to make medicine out of it...it just doesn’t work. Cannabis in its natural form works the best. Raw Cannabis is very different than dried Cannabis. THC and CBD are THCa (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) and CBDa (cannabidiolic acid). Neither THCa or CBDa are psychoactive, meaning there is no high associated with the plant. It is only until the flowers are dried and or heated, that these two components turn into THC and CBD.

Raw Cannabis is very useful for people who want Cannabis’s medicinal effects but don’t want the high associated with the plant. When consuming raw Cannabis you get many more times the medicinal affects than dried Cannabis. Smoked Cannabis you get 10% medicinal value. Eating dried Cannabis you get 60% the medicinal value. Eating raw Cannabis you get 600 times the medicinal value.

The Power of Raw CannabisCannabis does not discriminate
Of the over 200 cell types in our bodies that we have, Cannabis will destroy any unhealthy type. We shed skin cells internally and externally. A good example of how Cannabis sheds unhealthy skin cells is: Cannabis and Hemp oil. Both are the best moisturizers on the planet. Cannabis oil does something that no other moisturizers do. Cannabis oil heals the underlying skin and sheds dead and or dying skin cells. This natural bodily effect is called Apoptosis, where the cells are programmed to die. If a cell is passed its "expiry date" and tries to save it's self, cancer might result. When treating cancer with CBD Cannabis oil, the cancer tumor isn't shrinking, the cancer cells are dying off naturally. Cancer is not a disease. Cancer is a deficiency of the Endocannabinoid system. Our body produces Endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids naturally fights off diseases and kills bad cells every day. The Cannabinoids in Cannabis are very similar to the Endocannabinoids your body already produce. By consuming Cannabis you are giving you body the ability to do something that it already does, just better.

As we age, our metabolism slows down naturally. Our eyesight gets weaker, our mobilization slows down. Our memory isn't as sharp as it once was. It's no wonder why so many people are effected by age related illnesses. Cannabis and Hemp are an all natural way, for your body to restore it's harmony and slow down the aging process.

It's very interesting to note that: THC is what makes Cannabis illegal. If it was not for this one simple fact, then Hemp would be illegal as well. CBD is not illegal and can be purchased at any health food store. Hemp contains <3 % THC, at these very low levels, THC will not have any noticeable psychoactive (high) effect on any person. Since raw Cannabis has no THC, instead it contains THCa, Cannabis should be considered as a medicine and food supplement just like Hemp

I wonder if my dog would have been alive today if I kept letting her eat raw Cannabis leaves. She suffered from seizures and were sometimes severe. After knowing what I know now about Cannabis...should I have kept letting her eat the leaves?. Makes you wonder how many people could have been saved if…
